Overview |
Join us as we ride motorcycles along palm fringed sand
beaches of Gulf of Thailand; turn inland on the winding
roads of rainforest clad mountain ranges with herds of wild
elephants and cross the plains to reach the mountain high
plateaus with coffee and tea plantations. From there we
descend to the Central Plains - "The rice bowl of Thailand"
where we visit Sukhothai - the ancient capital of Siam.
After a motorbike ride among paddy fields we start climbing
again, braving the "Road of Thousand Bends" through
mountainous area to reach Chiang Mai, the largest city in
Northern Thailand. There we enjoy the bustling Night Bazaar
and the relaxing atmosphere of old Buddhist temples.
From
Chiang Mai our motorbike tour continues over 2000 meters
high mountain passes with magnificent panoramic views over
the foothills of Himalayas and hill tribe villages to the
centre of opium trade - Golden Triangle. On the way we stop
at the elephant camp tugged in a forest to see the gentle
giants at bathing, daily training and eventually to get a
taste of elephant ride through jungle and a river stream. At
the northernmost point of Thailand we spend the morning in
the Burmese market town Tha Chi Lek and take a long tailed
boat across Mekong River to Laos in the afternoon.
Since the objective of this tour was to include the main highlights
of Thailand in aspect of scenery, historical monuments,
culture, culinary experience and variety of roads, we have
included infamous River Kwai Bridge and the Death railway in
our program. To get there we turn south and ride
along the biggest jungle in South East Asia. This route
offers a mixture of everything - mountains, hilly areas,
rice fields and rural life as it was centuries ago. Before
returning to our starting point - the beach resort near
Bangkok, we stop at the Tiger temple, where tigers walk free
and at the biggest floating market in Thailand. Visas are arranged at
the border crossings. Riding experience
required (1 - 5): ***
